Doggy Easter Egg Hunt

Posted · 2 Comments

As doggy parents, we want to share each holiday and special occasion with our precious pooches, this Easter celebrate with your very own, personal Doggy Easter Egg Hunt!

We all loved running around the house as children looking for our delicious Easter eggs, the excitement when we finally find our treats. Well dogs aren’t so different to children after all, apart from the fur and paws… but finding tasty treats will guarantee to put a wag in your dogs tail.

How To Do It:

1. What treats to use:

Firstly, this goes without saying to not use real chocolate Easter Eggs! Please see our article on 5 Things Your Dog Should Never Eat, where you can read why.

Instead of using traditional chocolate, you can use your dogs favourite treats, such as some chicken or other tasty treats. The stronger the smell the better, so they can find them easily!

If you want to keep the hunt as authentic as possible, you can get dog friendly ‘chocolate’ in various pet shops. Just make sure to check the label before giving them any.

2.  Where to hide them:

You will want to hide the treats in easy to reach places for your dog. For example: If you own a Chihuahua, it is probably best not to hide treats on top of the kitchen counter. But instead hide them behind the curtain, under the couch or under a bush in the garden.

Before hiding any treats, ensure to make a map of the area the hunt will be taking place and mark on the map each place you hide the treats, in case your dog doesn’t find all of them. Week old chicken is not something you want your home to smell like.

3. Have Fun!

The final and most important step is to have fun. It is the perfect bonding experience for you and your furry friend and it is a great exercise for their brain to allow them to use their smell to their full ability.

Happy Easter From HouseMyDog!
